Tour The Elegant Barnacle State Historic Site

When going on vacation, travellers want to relax and enjoy the sights of their destination. Those who venture out to Miami know they are in for a party atmosphere full of revelry and energy. The Miami landscape is vibrant and energetic, not lacking atmosphere or colour – visitors here are spoilt for choice as they have a wide variety of activities to undertake and landmarks to explore.

The Barnacle State Historic Site is one of the impressive sights to visit when in town. Tranquil and serene, this precious monument is situated in happening Coconut Grove and was built by one of the Grove’s most influential pioneers, Ralph Middleton Munroe. With the stunning Bay of Biscayne providing a panoramic backdrop, this historical site is one of the best-preserved sites around and its legacy sheds a rich history on the past years of the Bay. The Barnacle is the oldest home in the Dade-County and is a relic of exquisite architecture and deft finishing touches. Surrounding the main historic site is a forest called tropic hardwood hammock. During the 1920s this was representative of the original Miami landscape and the section that has been preserved is one of the few places you can see a genuine remnant of the formerly vast ‘Miami Hammock’.

Through Munroe’s preservation of this hammock, the forest still contains many of the old trees that Munroe would have had in his day. This fashionable, period estate, which lies on 5 acres of lush terrain, gives a clear insight into the times that Munroe lived. The very knowledgeable staff supply further invaluable information and allow visitors the opportunity to get swept up in the history of this magnificent historical site. This is a definite must-see attraction for those wanting to get away from the trappings of modern lifes and appreciate a simpler time.
